Doing Well

Hi Sarah!
I hope you are having a good holiday. Just wanted to let you know, Wyatt is doing well. With the warm up, has come the mud....and you know what that means:) I think Wyatt and Justin have a bet going on.....who can look the most like a mud puddle.
Today Wyatt was very good in the round pen. He started off a bit moody, but then worked out of it! I think he was mad that he could see the others eating hay.
It seems his back is doing well. I guess we have one more week, and then I can put the saddle on him.
I plan to ground work him with the saddle a few days, before getting on him.....just to see how his back reacts.

Happy New Year!

Walk, Walk, Whoa....Now do it again.

Wyatt is the type of guy that just wants to do his job, but doesn't understand why there is a need for some things. Walking in the round pen ( or even under saddle out in the pasture) is just not on his top list of things that are necessary and he doesn't really see the point. So, today, being that the ground was so hard....I really just wanted to do a lot of long walking with him...but on the lead to start, he was way to fresh. So, I went to the round pen thinking: lets see if he can listen at a walk. Usually in the round pen, Wyatt wants to go...trot, trot, trot, no walking..no listening to whoa....and he is not happy with the lunge whip!
Today, though, we had a break through....He stayed at a walk, turned directions when asked, when asked to whoa he did ( okay at first it took about 5 times of asking, but then he agreed it was time to whoa) and by the time we were done he was in complete attention of what I was asking of him and was listening to me! This is a big step, since walking is NOT his thing! So, now we were ready to walk on the lead...without me being drugged about. He was calm and listening....I like to talk, so he kept giving me the cocked ear and stayed in my stride. Maybe I was just boring him into a walk....but I like to think he was enjoying the chat:)
I will give today an A+

First Show Season Results

In 2009, we went to the New Classic Horse Show series in Cartersville.  It was quite a successful season - we came in second over fences and sixth on the flat.

Back to the beginning

Here is Wyatt's first day at Talla Glen - Jan 27th 2009
When he first arrived - he was a little 'skinny' - nothing like the athletic TB he is today :-)

Merry Christmas

Yes...I am guilty of taking goofy photo's on Christmas and other holidays! But it is always nice to share the holiday cheer with our equine pals:) Wyatt was game for the hat, so I HAD TO CAPTURE IT.
He is out for his morning hay and was quite happy to see me leave ( ha ha). I gave him a good grooming and we did a bit of walking on the lead...
Looks like we have rain/snow coming soon. SO, off to finish stall prep for tonight.

Brisk Walk

Wyatt and I just got back from a brisk walk in the pasture. I will admit, I had to work to keep up! Wyatt, was very happy to be out and about, but thought he should be moving at a slightly faster tempo.... We tackled some hills, and I realized Wyatt will not be the only one getting back into shape!
After a good 20 minute walk, we did a bit of trotting in the round pen. Cameron watched Wyatt in the round pen and said "He sure has a nice trot". I must agree.
Here is Wyatt sporting his new fleece:)

Final (hopefully) treatment

I managed to get out to Mud Creek today to see Wyatt's treatment, meet Dr Underwood and hold Wyatt's head while he was sedated...  It was a very educational experience :-)

Dover again

So, we didn't make it to Leslie's.  Ada was ill :-(.  We hope to go Weds.  I did visit Wyatt though and found out that the new blankets I bought are too big..... another trip to Dover coming up.  Will try and keep the credit card in my wallet this time :-)

Starting Out

Today Ada and I will visit Leslie Olsen (dressage trainer).  Ada is having a lesson and we will discuss Wyatt's training / recovery program to start in Jan 2011.
